I recently received the Hydro Silk Ionic Steam Flat Iron from the well-known hair brand, Conair. I couldn’t wait to try it because it actually produces steam, and the only steam-producing product I’d ever used before this was a clothing iron haha. I got the red flat iron that’s 1.5 inches (38 mm) in width. My first thoughts when I opened it up was that it looked really cool but that it was wider than what I like, and pretty heavy as well. The heaviness is a bit annoying for me because my arm gets a bit sore after a while so I think that’s an area for improvement.

Other than that, the iron is actually quite good. It heats up to 395 F (200 C), has retractable combs and you can use the steam or not use the steam. My hair is pretty straight naturally but it is very frizzy due to being colored so much. The Hydra Silk actually does a great job at straightening it and leaving it smooth instead of frizzy, especially with the steam on. I do find the steam a little bit inconsistent as I noticed it didn’t always steam when I would use it. I think you have to press the plates together a bit harder for it to work which isn’t ideal but for an affordable hair brand, it’s not much of a complaint because it still does a great job at straightening my frizzy and damaged hair. I also like that I don’t feel or smell my hair “burning” even on the hottest level of heat which in my head confirms that it is less damaging than other flat irons.

Features:

heats up to 395 F | steam mist refreshes & adds shine between shampoos | retractable combs come in three levels: off (for easy to style hair) low (thick, wavy hair) and high (hard to style hair) | auto off | tourmaline ceramic coating: eliminates frizz for less damage | 5 heat settings + ION setting | 30 second heat up

I really like the retractable combs. It does say the “off” setting is for easy to style hair like mine but I actually like using it on low as I feel like it helps with keeping my hair straight for longer, and not tangling like it usually does in the summer heat. You can grab your own at Walmart or Amazon where it retails for around $80.00 CDN.
