Okay guys. Back in January I got a Sephora gift card for my birthday and I decided to use it on a higher end foundation- I wanted to try one that I never have before. I spent an actual hour and a half in Sephora trying to decide which one I should get (with no help from the staff, may I add…step it up Sephora Pacific Center). I feel like a rant is in order because I can’t understand how 8 employees walked by me a million times without bothering to ask me if I needed help…even after I circled the store 6032423 times looking like a lost boy. It’s safe to say this has always been my least favorite Sephora after Sephora Metrotown. For obvious reasons.

ANYways, Sephora staff rant aside, I finally managed to grab someone because I decided to get the Estee Lauder DoubleWear and I needed to be shade matched. I ended up being the lightest shade (1N1 – Ivory Nude), so I grabbed that and went on my merry way. I was so so so excited to try this foundation because a) everyone and their mother raves about it, and b) one of my friends wears it on the daily and it looks amazing on her! Combine that with the matte, full-coverage but super light feeling formula and I thought this was going to be a gift from God! ….Boy was I wrong. While it isn’t the WORST foundation I’ve tried, I just don’t like it. I don’t like the way it blends out. I don’t like how it looks on my skin. I don’t like the formula or the texture because it feels bizarre to me. Like clay, kind of. Obviously it is super-matte so that is true, and it does feel light weight- but I feel like it’s not full coverage. When I put it on I can still see random patches of redness or little dots that it didn’t cover properly, and it definitely cakes up under my eyes as well.

I mean, maybe I’m using too much product? Or too little? I’m not sure. I’ve tried so many different methods- from brushes to beauty blenders, from less product to more product, primer or no primer, and I’ve tried a few primers with it as well. It just doesn’t seem to be working for me. And don’t get me wrong, obviously once I finish my full face with concealer, powder, bronzer etc, it is manageable to leave the house looking ok. But it just doesn’t give me that WOW factor. I get so many compliments on my skin when I wear Rihanna’s Fenty Foundation but with this one, no one has ever said anything. I realize I could have returned it but I really wanted to try and make it work. If anyone has any tips for me please let me know, but it is possible that the formula just doesn’t work for my skin type.

What did you guys think about this foundation? Do you like it? What is your favorite high end foundation? Do tell!

Much love,
